WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE...

This site is the home of the Great Northwood Bowmen. We are a Medieval Longbow Archery and re-enactment Society based in London. Our aim as a re-enactment society is to present an accurate impression of people who lived in the 14th and 15th centuries and insodoing we are committed to providing exciting and varied shows for both organisers, the public and of course for our members!

Step back in time...

It is the year of our Lord, 1471. King Edward has reconciled with his brother George Duke of Clarence, taken Henry VI prisoner and imprisoned Queen Margaret of Anjou after the battle of Tewkesbury in May of this year.

Although it has only been a few months since the bloody battle these are times of peace and harmony throughout England.

As you pass the vibrant colours of our encampment and as you catch the scent of woodsmoke on the air you will notice the banners flying high to be those of King Edward's Lady Mother, Duchess Cicely Neville and her son Richard, Duke of Gloucester. They are journeying back to London after a period of hiding. Her daughters Ladies Anne and Margaret Plantagenet as well as some household staff accompany her. They are currently under the protection of Sir Edward Northwood and his retinue of Archers.
