ABOUT US

This page aims to tell you a little bit about our history. On the Right Hand side of the page you will see three categories, please click on the images to read a little bit more about what our Society can offer and what activities we get up to!

We originally began life as a longbow archery club back in 2002 but it has been within the past two years that we have really formed into an historical society. Although we still offer our Have-A-Go Archery activity for the public in the summer months, we have spent much of our time researching and familiarising ourselves with the characters which we re-enact.

Our aim as a re-enactment society is to present an accurate impression of people who lived in the 14th and 15th centuries. This means that whilst some of us re-enact historically accurate figures others have chosen to create a character based upon their knowledge of social roles within the society of the time. We have, between us, amassed a large amount of kit suited to the re-enactment of this period including a range of medieval armour, weaponry, tents(we have recently purchased a large burgundian and 2 roundels which will compliment our existing tents) and historically accurate costumes which provide the public with an accurate as possible impression of history. Our characters vary from the noble to the peasant and this allows the public to view something of a cross section of medieval society.

At each event we attend we have aimed to portray Medieval Life to the best of our ability. We have offered the chance for the public to get up close to our displays and hopefully, many people go away from one of our events feeling like they have learnt something new and intriguing about the medieval period.

Our Society is made up of an interesting blend of experienced and unexperienced re-enactors. This has benefitted us as we have been able to learn from the mistakes and experiences of our more experienced members whilst taking on board the comments and suggestions of our newer members. We consider ourselves to be a very creative and innovative Society but at the same time we do maintain the importance of authenticity when at events.

We aim to be a very flexible Society and we are keen to pursue activities and events that our members are interested in. This means that we are willing to develop new activities and our members are able to choose what type of character they would like to be. We do suggest that members begin with a peasant character as this is a cheaper and easier role to develop, we do not encourage members to develop a character if they do not have the equipment to match. We have spent time, money and hard work on developing other types of show format. These areas can be seen on our Show Formats and re-enactment Pages.

Whilst we have spent much of our time on perfecting our Living History Encampment we are trained archers and our expertise in this field is represented by our archery display.
